Welcome to My Blog!

Hey everyone! First, let me introduce myself. I go by the name of Bemo, although I must admit it is not my real name -- just a nickname. I'll also throw in that I am a 20 year old female! I'll be turning 21 in May yippee! ;)

The intention of "OTea Time" is to share and reflect on my experiences as an MOT student. I might share somethings thereafter, but for the moment, that will be the focus of my blog. The name "OTeaTime" came about randomly while talking with a friend and I did not like how "OTTime" looked as a name or website. Soooooo...with a little play on words and a nice cup of hot tea being a great time for reflection, I felt that "OTeaTime" would be a cute name for my blog. Plus, let me be honest...I couldn't really think of anything else :P!

Anyways, I was offered admission into an MOT program October 31st, 2013. It was a great and exciting day. I was definitely proud that much of my hard work had finally paid off. I have been wanting to be an OT since I was about 16/17 years old. I like to say that I didn't find OT... OT found me! I truly feel like it is a life calling and I look forward to the direction(s) life takes me within the field!

I graduate from my undergrad program on May 17, 2014! I will have a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. I have enjoyed many aspects of my undergrad experience, but I am definitely ready to focus in and apply the things I have learned and will learn to my future career in Occupational Therapy.

My MOT program starts May 27, 2014. It is both my first day of school and orientation. The program is about 2.5 years in length -- 2 years of the academics and roughly 6 months of field work. I will fill you in a little more once I start getting more information!

I'm not exactly sure how often I will be posting. I do not want my blog to feel like a chore, but rather a time where I can reflect when I feel inclined to do so. Therefore, the posting of my blogs could range significantly -- it will just depend on what is going on within my program and life. My blogs will include written blogs, pictures, and some videos. Let me forewarn you, the videos will be uncut, unedited videos recorded from my webcam and/or iPhone.

If you are interesting on following me on this journey! Feel free to tag along.

PS: I will officially start posting blogs May of 2014. I just wanted to get the blog started so the name would at least be taken! :) Catch you all then!

PS2: I have a couple of blogs that will be posted this month (January) before the actual kick-off in May. Thus, there will be a big gap in between my posts but I'm coming back I promise :)

  3. Good morning Bemo.

My name is Christina and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I have been following you for a while and I really appreciate the advice you give. Even though I am a little older than you, I admire your drive. I have gotten a lot of great advice from you just watching your videos. As you embark on your journey to becoming an OT, I just want to wish you much success. I currently work as an assistant teacher at a local children's center. I have been there for 12 years and am currently looking to try my hand at something new that still involves helping children. I have a 6 year old nephew who receives OT in school and I see the improvement in him. I am interested in becoming an OT as well. Any advice on how I can get started? Have a great day.

    1. Hello again Christina! lol Thank you for the great wishes! Oh wow 12 years is definitely a long time! If you already have a degree then all you would really need to do is enroll into a college that offers the pre-requisites required for whatever OT program you are trying to get into. http://oteatime.blogspot.com/2014/01/tips-applying-to-mot-program.html might be helpful to you if you have not already read it. Researching the field and looking into programs in your area and what they require from you will be your first step. Once you get that all figured out I would just start taking the required classes.
